John O Murphy

John O. Murphy
Originally from Ramsgrange, County Wexford. In the US since 1993.

John is the current Chairman of IN-NYC. He was one of the founding members of IN-NYC and has been on the Committee since the organization was formed in 2007. John came to the States on a scholarship to Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA in 1993. He attended the University of Notre Dame for law school and is a Senior Associate at global law firm, Linklaters LLP, where he represents some of the world’s largest companies in complex commercial litigation.

John is active in Irish-American affairs in New York, founding the Young Irish Lawyers Society and serving as a Director of the Irish-American Bar Association of New York and the Brehns. He devotes considerable time in his legal practice to public service work and his charitable work includes chairmanship of Concern USA’s Winter Ball Committee. John was named to the Irish Echo’s 2008 “Top 40 Under 40″ in Irish-America. Under his leadership, IN-NYC has gone from strength to strength. He is married to fellow Notre Dame grad, Carly Murphy, and they live on the Upper West-Side.

Declan Prenty

Declan Prenty.
Originally from Dundalk, Co Louth. In US since 1992.

Declan is a third year committee member and is responsible for back office operations of the Network. Internet, membership and marketing are some of his responsibilities.
He also brings a wealth of organizational experience having being involved with a number of organizations whilst living in Boston. He is a affiliated with of a variety of Irish and sporting organizations, including the Boston Irish Wolfhounds, Bayonne Rugby, CT Yankees Rugby, Boston Women Rugby and Children’s Voices of Ireland. Currently working in IT in White Plains, NY developing college admission software. A resident of CT, he is an active participant in Network Events. He has previously lived in the UK, France and Germany and enjoys photography, politics, cycling, building websites and a spot of gardening.

Gerard P. O’Donoghue, CPA, CFP

Gerry O’Donoghue was born in the U.S., but was raised in Co Kerry before his family moved back to New York during his teenage years.

Gerry has been a member of IN-NYC since 2007 before expanding his involvement as Treasurer this year.

Gerry is a CPA in the State of New York and a Certified Financial Planner with over 17 years of experience in the Tax and Financial Planning industries. He received his Master’s in Taxation from Fordham University, where he also earned his undergraduate degree in accounting. Gerry founded O’Donoghue Financial Planning, LLC to provide quality independent financial planning to individuals and families from all walks of life. He also provides expert tax advice and preparation services to individuals, businesses, trusts, and estates.

Daniel Waldron
From Salthill, Galway. Daniel has been in NYC since 2006.

Daniel has been a member of the Irish Network for the last two years was was vice chair for the group in 2009. He is also part of the events sub-committee for the group.

Formerly the manager of Marquee Nightclub in Chelsea, one of the city’s most successful nightclubs, Daniel has also run Dune Nightclub in the Hamptons. In recent years he has exchanged late nights for the early mornings of the financial sphere, initially in private equity and now working as a credit derivatives broker in ICAP. He is a graduate of NUI Galway where he studied civil engineering.

Aoife Carlin

Newry-born Aoife Carlin has been based in New York since November 2006. She has been a member of IN-NYC since 2007 and an active Board Member for the past two years, on the Events Committee and as Secretary. She is a consultant with Ruder Finn Arts & Communications Counselors, the oldest and largest practice in the world specializing in visual and performing arts public relations and marketing. Before moving to New York she worked with leading performing arts organizations throughout Ireland, including the National Concert Hall in Dublin, the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast and as part of the team who managed Cork’s tenure as European Capital of Culture in 2005. She plays the piano and clarinet.

Kevin Elliot

Originally from Dublin, Kevin moved to New York in July 2009.

Kevin is a VP of Marketing for IDA Ireland – the Irish government agency with responsibility for attracting and supporting multinational companies to set up in Ireland. Having been recently assigned to IDA’s New York office, his role is to network with US-based IT companies and explore opportunities for Ireland. Kevin was previously based in IDA’s Dublin Headquarters. Prior to joining IDA, he worked for a UN initiative which addresses the issue of access to technology for education in developing countries.

With experience as a member of the Campaigns Committee in Trinity College as well as helping to found an International Students Society while studying abroad, Kevin brings some networking and events management experience to the role. Having previously lived in France, Denmark and Sweden, he has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from Trinity College Dublin and a Masters in International Business from Copenhagen Business School.

Aoife Butler

Aoife Elizabeth Butler

Aoife hails from Co. Roscommon. She arrived in New York in July 2007 from Chicago where she had lived permanently since 2002; having split her time between Chicago and Ireland from 1993 to 2002.

Aoife has been a member of IN NYC since 2008, but began her membership of the IN group in Chicago in 2004. Aoife is the current President of IN USA.

Aoife first came to the U.S. on scholarship to high school but returned to Ireland for her third level education. With a degree in chemistry from Trinity College Dublin, and a law degree from the University of London, Aoife is a patent litigation attorney with the New York office of Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker, LLP representing pharmaceutical companies protect their patent rights. To give back to society Aoife represents children with disabilities under IDEA, has volunteered her time in a children’s hospital in Uganda, Africa; and chairs the Trinity College Dublin Alumni Mentoring Committee. Aoife has been honored as one of the Irish Echo’s 2010 “40 Under 40″.

Gina Reilly

From Co. Sligo, Gina is a Business Studies graduate from Trinity College Dublin.
Gina has worked for 7 years in financial services, initially in the accounting practices of KPMG, where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant and PricewaterhouseCoopers and more recently with the Australian investment bank, Macquarie. She is based in the New York office of Macquarie and works on the Finance team for the Macquarie Infrastructure Funds and the newly launched renewable energy fund initiatives.
Gina is Vice Chairperson of the IN NYC for 2010, and has been a member of the committee for 3 years.
Gina has obtained many significant personal goals over the last number of years including running the New York City Marathon and completing the climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, the worlds tallest free standing mountain.

David Kavanagh

Born in Dublin, David returned to New York in August 2008, having lived here previously from 1983-1992.

David has been a member of IN-NYC since December 2008, and has been of assistance since then to the events sub-committee.

After qualifying out of the King’s Inns, David practiced as a Barrister in Dublin and on the Western Circuit from 2006 to 2008. He now works as a case manager in the ICDR, the international division of the American Arbitration Association in New York. David holds a B.A. and an LL.B. from the National University of Ireland, Galway and an LL.M. in international trade and business law from Fordham Law School.
David’s goals this year include; helping to plan and execute another interesting and vibrant Speaker Series season, aiding with the consolidation of a mentor programme for Irish people new to New York, contributing to an increasingly active IN-NYC involvement with charity organizations and supporting the positive growth and coordination of a coherent and cohesive IN-USA.

Martha Hourican

Martha Hourican
Martha is from Dublin but grew up in Brussels. Over the years she has lived in Ireland, Belgium, Guatemala, Sri Lanka and New York, where she has been since 2007.

Martha is the business development manager for Self Help Africa, a start-up organization in the US that works with communities in Africa to help them grow more food and establish small businesses.

Martha previously worked with GOAL in Sri Lanka, providing post-tsunami relief, and with GOAL USA in New York, specializing in event management and communications. Before that she worked with the Irish mission to UN and the European Commission in aid policy.

Martha has a BA in History from TCD, and a MA in Development Studies from UCD. She has been an IN-NYC member since 2008.
