About/History

History

IN-NYC was born out of the vision of former Consul-General and Vice-Consul for Ireland, Tim O’Connor and David Healy, respectively, in 2006. Using the expertise and vision of representatives from Enterprise Ireland, Tourism Ireland and the IDA, Ireland House began hosting events in February 2006 aimed at attracting young Irish professionals working in Business & Finance, Law, Medicine, IT and the Arts & Cultural communities in the city.

Between early 2006 and early 2007, the group built a database of names from these various professions who attended the events at the Consulate and elsewhere and in March of 2007, IN-NYC was established so that the Consulate’s blueprint could be built into a strong and independent network. IN-NYC is an independent 501(c)(4) non-for profit corporation. IN-NYC’s website was launched in March 2007. Today, we have over 300 subscribed members and over 1000 people on our mailing list. New members are joining daily as news of the network spreads. IN-NYC continues to enjoy the tremendous support and encouragement of current Irish Consul-General, Noel Kilkenny, and all at the Irish Consulate.

IN-NYC aims to be the forum through which the ambition, talent and energy of the many Irish and Irish-American professionals working in New York and beyond is harnessed to create a dynamic group that contributes greatly to the quality of the professional and social lives of its members and indeed, strengthens the overall economic and cultural relationship between Ireland and the U.S.
