StrEATfest 2011

Join us on May 14th for a day of celebrating in the sunshine.

When: Saturday, May 14th, 2011

Time: 12pm ’til late

Where: Stone St (near Wall St – closest subway: 2, 3 to Wall St, 4, 5 to Bowling Green or R, W to Whitehall)

Once again, the pubs and restaurants on Stone Street are joining together to throw a street-wide party to raise funds for Self Help Africa’s work overseas.

20% of all takings from the day will go to Self Help Africa, which means that all day long, from 12pm til late, every item consumed equals a contribution towards digging wells for poor rural communities in rural Africa.

Last year, enough was raised to allow Self Help Africa to dig two wells for poor rural communities in Togo, and to bring a water supply to 6,000 people there. The establishments behind the StrEATfest are Adrienne’s Pizzabar, Beckett’s, Burger Burger, Biergarten, The Dubliner, Mad Dog and Beans, Pizza Pizza, Smorgas Chef, Stone Street Tavern, Ulysses, Vintry and the Waterstone Grill.

The proceeds from the day will go to the provision of wells for rural communities in Burkina Faso, Africa. Wells provide more than water – they allow a community to grow food, sell their produce, and trade their way out of poverty.

Tracing your Irish Roots With Professor Christine Kinealy

May 18, 2011
6:00 pmto8:00 pm

Wednesday, May 18, 2011
6:00 – 8:00 PM
AT
SHRINE OF ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON

Church of Our Lady of the Rosary
7 State Street, New York, NY 10004
(located on State St. between Pearl St. and Water St.)

The Irish Network requests the pleasure of your company at the Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton to celebrate our Irish heritage and listen to Professor Christine Kinealy discuss the Irish immigration to America and methods of tracing our Irish roots.

Professor Kinealy lectures on History at Drew University, specializing in nineteenth-century Irish History. She has published dozens of books and articles depicting the tremendous journey of the Irish people in the last 2 centuries including books on the Famine and Irish Immigration.

The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary was the residence of Mother Seton, the first American saint to be canonized by the Vatican and founder of the parochial school system in the United States. The parish was also a mission for receiving poor Irish women sent out of Ireland by the British in the 1800’s before Ellis Ireland existed and it befriended more than 100,000 immigrant girls (of which 65,000 are listed in the parish archives).
