With the World-Cup only a couple of months away, IN-NYC is joining forces with its Celtic nation cousins to host a six-a-side soccer tournament on Saturday, April 17, from 9am – 2pm at Nike field in lower Manhattan. The plan is for teams representing Celtic regions to compete for the “Pan-Celtic Charity Shield.” We are looking for IN-NYC members (male or female) to put together teams and if you don’t have a team, submit your name and you will be assigned a team. With the World-Cup being held on the African continent for the first time, all proceeds raised on the day will be donated to the work of Self Help Africa (www.selfhelpafrica.org), a charity with Celtic roots. With the generous support of Gatsby’s Bar & Restaurant, a food and drinks table will be available during the tournament, and Gatsby’s has invited everyone back after the tourney to enjoy free food and generous drinks specials (www.gatsbysnyc.com).
Tournament Details
Two brackets of four teams each, with each team playing at least 3 games of two 15-minute halves each. Winners of each bracket advance to the finals, runners-up in each bracket play for the third-place finish. Squads should have at least 9 players, with a minimum of two ladies per squad (if no ladies on submitted squad, players will be assigned).
Moulded studs or sneakers okay. Shin-guards must be worn. $20 per player with all proceeds going to SelfHelp Africa.
Team submissions
If you wish to put together a team, submit your team entries to Eric Moore at eric.moore.m@gmail.com.
No team? No problem!
Individuals wishing to play are encouraged to submit their names and they will be placed on a team.
Please e-mail Hugh Gibbons at hughgibbons@gmail.com.
Deadline for team and individual submissions is Monday, April 12th at 6pm.
Whether as a player or as a supporter, all IN-NYC members and friends are encouraged to come out for what will be a wonderful day!
