Tom Crean (1877 – 1938) the intrepid Antarctic explorer and on of Ireland ‘s unsung heroes, is brought to life in this dramatic and humorous solo performances by Aidan Dooley.

Hear the riveting true stories of Crean’s Antarctic exploration as one of the few men to serve with both Scott and Shackleton and survive three famous expeditions – Discovery (1901-1904), Terra Nova (1910-1913), and Endurance (1914-1916).

Crean’s story is a testament of human fortitude against all the elements of Antarctic, his 36 mile, solitary trek to base camp during the Terra Nova expedition to rescue his comrades Teddy Evans and William Lashly has been described by Antarctic historians as “the finest fest of individual heroism from the entire age of exploration.”

This award winning one-man show has toured throughout Ireland and the USA for the past three years playing to capacity audiences and recently received its UK Premier at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it won a Fringe First Award.

“This magnetic revelation of a fascinating character, simply compels a standing ovation”

- Gerry Colgan, The Irish Times Dublin

“Crean lived and did more than survive – he triumphed, and Dooley’s performance is no less than a triumph.”

- Susan Conley, Sunday Tribune Dublin

“A remarkable and uplifting piece of theatre, gives everything and ask nothing”

- Emer O’Kelly, Sunday Independent Dublin

Date: Thursday June 14th
Venue: Country Bank, 200 East 42nd Street, NY
Time: 6.00pm – 8.00pm

Country Bank is a regional leader in the commercial real estate lending business. Founded in Putnam County in 1988, Country Bank is a New York State Chartered, FDIC-insured, full service commercial bank and has experienced excellent growth with Joseph Murphy of Scarsdale as its Chairman and William Burke of New Rochelle as its President. http://www.countrybnk.com/

Joe Murphy’s father left West Cork a generation ago. As one of five brothers, Joe was the only one to leave Ireland, resulting in Joe having a lot of close relatives still residing in West Cork. Joe is a qualified accountant. He later became involved in Real Estate and Banking. At one point he owned a substantial amount of commercial real estate here in Manahattan. Most of this has since been sold to Donald Trump. He worked for a long time with Drexel Burnham Investment Bank. During the 1990s he was asked to join the Board of Country Bank, and today he owns 60% of the company.

Joe Murphy owns the largest personal collection of Modern Irish Art in the US. He has generously offered to exhibit his collection for us on June 14th. Joe will be on hand personally, along with all the top executives at the bank. Almost half of the banks client base is Irish.
